May 9th, 2022

Hello parents of the JDCA;

I want to touch base with you as we near the end of JDCA for this year. I have to admit that it has been a challenging one, from scheduling conflicts to student dropouts, and an overall sense of un-normalcy that I am going to chalk up to post COVID fog as the community slowly crawls out from it. But we did make it through to the end and here we are getting ready for the last production of the year.

As you may be aware your child's production is scheduled for June 4th, 2022 but I want to explain how we are barely getting here.

The Academy year is strategically laid out and planned in advance. This planning allows for a certain amount days be alotted for changes. This will include 2 vocal shows, and two productions, one being a colloboration with the girls academy around the holidays and for other lessons.

The boys had been working on their full length script that is always presented at the end of the year in May. They get these scripts around January. This year, there have been so many abscences warranting actual cancelation of meetings due to how many are out at the same meeting. Recently, as an example, no rehearsal were held for 5 weeks straight. Due to member abscences, meeting cancelation due to attendance, and the expulsion of a member.

It was inevitable, that with one member down and no one to replace the character that this production was not going to happen. We promote honesty with our members and with each other, and a couple of members did admit that during those 5-6 weeks they did not study the script at all at home.

So what we are going to do is work on a smaller, simpler variety sketch show in replacement. And they will get these scripts this week. They must be studied at home and with everyones effort I am confident we can salvage the end of the year production. So below are the details.

1. Attendance is crucial for the remainding weeks. We have 4 weeks left. Please make note that we will have an extra dress rehearsal on Friday June 3rd. 6-8:30pm.

2. Costume/wardrobe expectations are the following: All cast members should be in beach attire. Tank tops, hawaiian shirts, shorts, etc. Just imagine a day at the beach.

3.  The production will be scheduled for June 4th at 7pm, and tickets will go on sale by this weekend. Parents always get first dibs. And as always Call Time (time actors have to be at the theater before a production) is at 6 pm.

I am confident that the group will do a great job. Please encourage your son to study the script with the directions I have given them.

Thursday June 2nd will officially be the last day of JDCA. (there is still dress rehearsal June 3rd though) JDCA will resume Thursday, August 25th and I hope that all will return as I am confident of a better year.

During the summer we do have a 9-week drama program that your child can participate in if he wants. All details are on the main page of our website.

The girls will be performing their show this Saturday May 14th, 7pm. It would be great to see other parents and members from other academies supporting each other, During the summer, we will have many events and fundraisers throughout, so we would love to see you.

Thank you for supporting your child with transportation, their dues, and coming to their shows. Much appreciation to you all. Let's make next year a great one!

Angel
