The Academy Theatre offers the youth in our community an affordable after-school arts education encompassing music, vocals, and theatre, while also imparting essential life, social, ethics, leadership, and management skills. Our curriculum is centered around production and the arts, ensuring that each member learns skills in various artistic disciplines. The Academy Theatre does not hold auditions for roles in any production, ensuring that every interested child has the opportunity to participate, regardless of experience. We uphold an equal opportunity philosophy, treating all cast members as equals.

 

By promoting traditional values, the Academy Theatre emphasizes positive reinforcement to help youth navigate peer pressure and challenges. By emphasizing traditional values such as professionalism, courtesy, and respect, encouraging members to engage positively with adults and the community.

 

Operating as a peer-led membership organization, the Academy encourages leadership and management development through a modified “Robert’s Rules of Order” approach, where members can run for elected positions and gain experience in public speaking and meeting management.

 

As a “working, learning, and teaching” organization, members are expected to contribute by volunteering at events and activities, including duties in our Café, fundraising, ushering, and box office sales, all guided by procedural manuals detailing responsibilities and etiquette. Members also assist with facility upkeep alongside volunteers and instructors. Training includes proper posture, voice levels, and appropriate behavior at public events, with an emphasis on a dress code for various activities.

 

By fostering a supportive environment, we aim to benefit not only the youth in our program but also their families and the wider community. Our mission is to instill a passion for the arts and provide education across various disciplines, equipping our members with valuable social, ethical, management, leadership, and life skills.
